It's a great time for parents of eighth and tenth grade students to begin thinking about the reading/writing SOL in March. I'm certified in the subject area and currently teach English 10 in Richmond. I am available to work with students in grade eight and/or students enrolled in English 10. However, I can help students with reading/writing at any level. This is my seventh year teaching English/Language Arts, and I am confident in my abilities to help your child. I am willing to work with one student or with small groups. My availability is fairly open throughout the week, and the cost is negotiable.

I'm currently in my 4th year at ODU. I'm applying to med school this summer. I'm a Biology major with a double minor in Chemistry and English and an overall GPA of 3.55. I've made the Dean's list every Semester at ODU and I'm also currently a teaching assistant for a college level General Biology lab for Biology majors. My primary goals are to help identify challenges and build strategies to assist students in overcoming those difficulties, allowing students to make sense of and understand, not memorize information. Additionally, I find that addressing the concerns of the student, the parents, and any other involved educators is paramount to a child's long-term success.
I am available in home or at an agreeable public location (library) to help with homework, test prep, or give additional instruction on specific subjects/topics. In some cases I will work with two students on the same information, as small group work can be very beneficial.

SAT I/II Tutoring: $40 an hour with first session free
It is not too early to being thinking about preparing for SAT I/II tests. I have been offering private in-house SAT tutoring to students in the Northern VA area for the past five years. Since every student has different needs, my program sets an unique learning plan based on the individual student. I provide parents with periodic reports on their child's progress.

Applying to schools can be a daunting and stressful process for both parents and students. Over the years I have helped students navigate their way through applications, picking who to have write letters of recommendation, deciding what is the best personal statement topic, and insuring all materials are submitted on time for each school.
