Helpful Hints for Students!
In The Classroom...
- Before class, glance through the text book on the days topics.
- Go To Class! Its the easiest solution to raise your grade!
- Being there means you have to be paying attention, and not daydreaming.
- Listen for anything the professor repeats, usually this is a clue that this is important!
- Pay attention to what your professor is writting on the board. Its important. If they seem to underline, circle, raise their voice during the discussion, it is even more important!
- Takes notes. Make sure that after the class you will be able to understand your notes.
- As soon as you can, after class go over your notes since the lecture is still fresh in your head.
- If you do not understand something from a lecture, ask a fellow student or the professor after class.
While Reading...
- Find a quite area to read, no distractions from what is important!
- When reading make notes of any bold or italic words, usually these words stand out for a reason.
- Write down any questions that you may have while reading. When your done, if you can not answer your questions with what you have read, re-read it. If you still do not understand, ask your professor.
- Spend time on the chapter summery, and any other "End of the Chapter" sections.
- Diagrams are a great visual representation of what they are trying to explain. Pay attention to them.
- After your done reading, make sure you understand what you read and what they are trying to explain.
Test Taking...
- Read all of the questions first. The easiest ones should be your first priority.
- Take your time. Read each question until you understand it 100%
- On multiple choice questions, pay attention to what the answer is not. Narrow the choices down to just a few. When you have the odds at 50 / 50 use your best guess.
- If your spending a lot of time on one question, move on to the next.
- Bring everything you need! Pencils, Pens, scratch paper, and blue books if you need them.
- Make sure you have a watch or can see the clock to keep track of time
- READ THE DIRECTIONS FIRST
Other Tips...
- Keep a "to do" list. Prioritize them and also add dates items need to be completed.
- Use a calendar to show when items are due and when they need to be done.
- Do not study with the TV on, or with the radio on, you will not be focused.
- Sleep! All nighters rarely work. Your brain needs rest to work properly.
- Never turn in homework late. There are no excuses.
- Use Mnemonics when you trying to memorize information. For example,
- Kings Play Chess On Fine Grain Sand.
- Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species.
- Studying with a classmate helps.
- If you do find your self daydreaming, close your book and take a walk to get it out of your system.
