The need for tutors is likely to rise
again as a result of 2 specific principles in the new education plan President
Obama presented and the United States Congress approved. Pressure is being applied to states public
schools and higher education leadership to work together to meet President
Obama’s new goal: that by 2020, the United States will have the highest
proportion of college graduates of any nation. What
does this mean? The Obama administration has presented a
plan to improve the preparation for college so more students who enroll in
school are actually prepared enough to complete their degree and graduate. More exciting to others is the increase in
money to encourage more people to either attend college in the first place or
to ride out the economic recovery by earning an additional degree.
What does this mean for tutors?
More students will be encouraged to
properly prepare to enter college and seek help to maintain grades and graduate. Furthermore, the number of students able to
attend college – and those who may now, with the government’s additional aid, enter
business school or law school over a lower-paying job are likely to increase. As the number of students in higher education
rises, so does the need for academic assistance. Quick Breakdown of the Numbers: (Note: Perhaps best of all,
Financial Aid applications and paperwork are supposedly going to be redesigned,
making the entire process less hellish.)- Additional $17 billion for Pell
Grants.
- Federal Perkins Loan Program increased
to $6 billion in annual loans.
- $14 billion is identified as tuition
tax credits for middle class families (a raise of credit from $1,800 to $2,500.
- $500 million grant program for new ‘federal-state-local
partnership’ to improve graduation rates, especially for low-income college
students.

President Obama refers to in the following quote. Regardless of your political identification. :) “And
so tonight, I ask every American to commit to at least one year or more of
higher education or career training. This can be community college or a
four-year school, vocational training or an apprenticeship. But whatever the
training may be, every American will need to get more than a high school diploma.
And dropping out of high school is no longer an option. It’s not just quitting
on yourself, it’s quitting on your country — and this country needs and values
the talents of every American. That is why we will provide the support
necessary for you to complete college and meet a new goal: by 2020, America
will once again have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world.”
